UNFC 2009

The United Nations Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources 2009 (UNFC 2009) is a scheme for classifying & evaluating energy and mineral volumes located on, or below the Earth’s surface. It is designed as a general framework and aims to incorporate and unify existing national & international systems (SPE/PRMS, CRIRSCO, Russian Classification of 2005). The principal objective of UNFC-2009 is to enhance international communication by providing a simple, user-friendly and uniform format for the reporting of energy reserves and resources, using economic criteria. UNFC-2009 is a project-based system in which quantities are classified on the basis of the three fundamental criteria: (1) economic and social viability (E); (2) field project status and feasibility (F); and, (3) geological knowledge (G). The scheme uses a numerical coding system.
